Isla Davies is a Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Division at Queen ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵt University.
- Overview
I have been a speech & language therapist for 24 years, with clinical specialisms in neurodivergence and speech sound disorders. My part-time role at ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ is focused on placement development & practice-based learning. On the days I am not at ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ, I am a practising independent speech and language therapist in our local community. I bring current knowledge of practice to the classroom to help students bridge the gap between theory and practical application.
Being embedded in our local community is instrumental in supporting ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ's commitment to building links with the wider community in East Lothian. I am responsible for the Core Skills Placement strand of the Speech and Language Therapy programme at ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ. I organise and support experiential placements with local schools where students learn about typical development, and with local communication-related third sector organisations where students learn about the impact of communication challenges in daily life.
